An afternoon with George Washington

As a belated Presidents’ Day celebration, Sherwood Assisted Living, 550 W. Hendrickson Rd. in Sequim, will present “Contemporary Conversations with George Washington” today at 2:30 p.m.

Reenactment actor Vern Frykholm will offer insights into Washington’s presidency and share personal stories from the historic figure’s life.

Library to host ‘Telling Tales’

The Sequim Library will host “Telling Tales: An All-Ages Tabletop Role-Playing Game Night” on Saturday, Feb. 22, from 5-6:30 p.m. at the library’s temporary location, 609 W. Washington St.

The free after-hours event will offer games for all levels, whether you are a beginner or a longtime Dungeons and Dragons player interested in trying something new. Bring friends and family members or join a group at the event to play a game from the library’s collection. Participants are also welcome to bring their favorite Tabletop Role-Playing Game (TTRPG) from home.

TTRPGs are interactive, collective storytelling games that allow players to immerse themselves into different worlds, characters and scenarios. Some have physical pieces, but many are books or instructions and players create a world together through the story. TTRPGs often use different varieties of dice, and some use other items like playing cards to randomize outcomes. These games allow for creative problem-solving, social engagement, and other lifelong skills like reading, math and community building.

Most of the games offered are recommended for ages 8 and up; children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult. Light snacks will be provided.

This program is made possible by the Institute of Museum and Library Services through the Library Services and Technology Act, with funding administered by the Washington State Library, a division of the Office of the Secretary of State. It is also supported in part by the Friends of Sequim Library.
