Cedarbrook Lavender & Herb Farm owners Marcella and Gary Stachurski have expanded their wholesale business to include a quaint and cozy shop in downtown Sequim at 134 1/2 W. Washington St.

The 10-foot by 25-foot gift shop, which opened April 18, is reminiscent of one they had on the old Bell Farm homestead for many years at the south end of Sequim Avenue with accents of weathered barn wood, vintage metal pieces and crockery — and of course, all matter of lavender.

“The majority of our business is wholesale but I love visiting with customers,” Marcella Stachurski said. “I always thought it would be really cool to have a little shop down here. I think Sequim’s downtown shops are places tourists love to visit and we’ve had fun putting it together. We really wanted it to look like a gift shop and it’s a way to offer Cedarbrook to our friends, neighbors and visitors.”

Stachurski said the shop is only a small portion of the building’s 3,000 square feet.

“The perk for production is we have everything here now: food processing, a commercial kitchen, bottling, a warehouse and shipping, all in this building.”

Although the shop is brimming with a wide array of products, Stachurski’s eye for design makes the boutique chic rather than kitschy. Antique sewing machine drawers, with the undersides up, show off Cedarbrook’s own variety of spices and an enameled wash basin displays its own blend of lavender and rose potpourri. Well-worn wooden boxes and baskets overflow with large and small bags of lavender buds and bundles hang from the ceiling.

And, of course, there’s the soothing waft of lavender awaiting when customers open the door.

Stachurski said she has four main groups of lavender products: bath and body, aromatherapy, culinary and home decor.

Bath and body products include face/body cream, lotions, shampoo, shower gel, bath teas, bubbles and salts, lip balm and goats milk soap. Her aromatherapy line features sachets, potpourri, essential oil and soy candles.

Culinary products are lemon/lavender pepper, lavender pepper, Herbs de Provence, lavender sugar, baking mixes, lavender-infused chocolates and teas plus lavender-tinged honey, gathered from their own farm.

Under home decor, there are refillable dryer bags, three scents of natural cleaners, teddy bears stuffed with lavender, catnip and catnip pillows, small lamps and vintage decor items.

As the Stachurskis are their only employees, hours for the gift shop will be limited except during the Sequim Lavender Weekend.

“During Lavender Weekend, we’ll be open 9 a.m.-6 p.m. daily,” Stachurski said. “This is where we’ll be instead of the street fair.”

From now until then, the gift shop is open from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturdays and from 5:30-8 p.m. during the First Friday Artwalk. Customers also can call for an appointment at 683-7733.

The Stachurskis have painted the storefront in a soft moss green with deep lavender accents and their Cedarbrook sign will go up in June. They’re also having a new website built.
