The unique fudge drive-through off Hooker Road just got a little sweeter.

Owners of WeDo Fudge, Christina and Charles Norman, recently teamed with Linda Engeseth, owner of Crumb Grabbers Bakery, by opting to operate under one roof. Although the two businesses will remain separate, the decision to share space at the drive-through allowed for an increase in both business hours and the variety of available confections.

“This is a very good thing for both of us,” Engeseth said. “Fudge and bakery items complement each other, so really it’s the perfect blend.”

After closing the bakery’s storefront at the corner of Cedar Street and Fifth Avenue last March, Engeseth continued to run Crumb Grabbers Bakery from a commercial kitchen, but has missed having a central location where costumers can regularly find favorites, she said.

“This is a great example of two small, local businesses working together,” Christina Norman said.

Come Christmastime, Norman hopes to work with Engeseth to create gift boxes containing varying types of gourmet fudge and handcrafted baked goods.

The growth at the drive-through coincides with the second anniversary of WeDo Fudge, which also has grown from both a wholesale and retail perspective, Norman said, noting their wholesale reach has moved off the peninsula.

Looking to next year, Norman plans to focus on making the drive-through a “destination,” — a more achievable goal, she said, given the collaborations with Engeseth to up business hours from two to four days a week and diversify the artisan fudge and bakery items offered.
