Mural hits home for Habitat

Craig Robinson finishes second piece for downtown store

Sequim Habitat Boutique Store’s walls have become artist Craig Robinson’s canvas in recent months.

He finished an angel wing mural on the west side of the building this summer to celebrate Habitat’s new partnership with Olympic Angels, a holistic foster care program that expanded into Sequim and Port Angeles.

Robinson then recently finished another mural on the business’ north side in the alleyway between Washington Street and Cedar Street.

Aside from the a house theme suggested by Colleen Robinson, his wife and Habitat’s chief executive officer, and the addition of a soccer ball and their Pokemon-named inspired dog “Flareon,” Robinson said most of the vision was his own.

A Habitat board member suggested adding physical fencing.

“It works well with the composition, and it worked out perfectly,” Robinson said.

He started working weekends in early August and finished on Sept. 24. Both he and Colleen feel the mural is a good addition to downtown Sequim as they’ve seen a good response to the angel wings so far.

“People were posing while I was still painting it,” Robinson said.

To celebrate the murals, and the store opening in November 2022, Habitat, City of Sequim, and business leaders held a ribbon cutting with the Sequim-Dungeness Valley Chamber of Commerce on Sept. 28.

Colleen Robinson said since opening, people have loved the new location and its variety.

Furniture and home décor donations to 154 W. Washington St., are open in the parking lot shared with A-1 Auto Parts between 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Wednesday-Saturday. The store is open 10 a.m.-5:30 p.m. the same days.

Next up for Craig Robinson, is a mural on a dividing wall at a home in Happy Valley.

As for his next Habitat mural, Colleen Robinson said she’d like him to partner with students to paint a mural on the wall facing Francis Street in Port Angeles.
