A tight-knit group from Olympic Medical Center’s “Healthy U” program found their fit at Anytime Fitness after the group had to find a different facility to work out following the discontinuation of the program at the hospital.

Thus, to continue their exercise program, the group of about 10 participants have become regulars three times a week at Anytime Fitness since early February.

“They’ve been really helpful here,” Arlene McClelland, a longtime participant of the group, said. “OMC told us our different options and we decided to come here and so far it’s been great.”

After members of the group approached owners of Anytime Fitness Heidi and Jay Bryan about coming to their facility, Jay Bryan said they “immediately” created a group format to accommodate the members’ desire to stay together.

“We wanted to keep the camaraderie of the group.” he said.

Given OMC’s recent partnership with the Sequim Aquatic Recreation Center (SARC) and the YMCA, the group first got referred to SARC. However, after exploring the various options, the group made a collective decision to attend Anytime Fitness.

“We are well-suited to helping folks who are in the post-rehab stage of recovering from an injury or cardiac event,” Bryan said.

Already having an established focus on post-rehab programs for cardiac, pulmonary and orthopedic issues, as well as hypertension and diabetes prevention and management exercise programs, staff with Anytime Fitness had the experience and education to cater to the once Healthy U participants.

“During our staffed hours there are always certified fitness professionals available to answer questions and provide help to our members. Being available, knowledgeable and helpful is probably what we do best,” Bryan said.

Although the partnership geared at building a community-based cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation transition program, referred to as “Cardio Camp,” is among OMC, SARC and the YMCA, individuals discharged from OMC are not limited to just those facilities, Bryan explained.

“If demand increases, we will likely add more groups at different times for post-cardiac. The whole idea is to promote longevity and movement is everything,” said fitness director Kenny Hall of Anytime Fitness.
