Battle of the Books, a year-long collaborative project between the North Olympic Library System and schools from across Clallam County, kicks off this October.
All participating students receive free copies of the five books read throughout the year, as well as a T-shirt featuring original student artwork.
Those books include: “Upside Down Magic” by Sarah Mlynowski, Lauren Myracle and Emily Jenkins (October); “The Way To Stay in Destiny” by Augusta Scattergood (November); “In the Footsteps of Crazy Horse” by Joseph Marshall III (December); “Patina” by Jason Reynolds (January), and “Wild Robot” by Peter Brown (February).
From October to February, library staffers will hold book discussions at fourth grade classrooms, as well as facilitate a homeschool student group.
Semifinal trivia competitions will be held at schools in March to determine which teams will represent their school in the final competition.
During the final competition — set for Friday, March 22, at the Port Angeles Library — teams of students from each school will participate in several rounds of book-related trivia based on the books they’ve read during the year.
Register by visiting the Youth Services Department of the Sequim Library, calling 360-683-1161 x7766, or sending an email to Youth@nols.org. (Book discussions for homeschool students are at the Sequim Library, 630 N. Sequim Ave., from 3:30-4:30 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month, October-February.)
The semi-final trivia competition for homeschool students will be held on March 12 at the Sequim Library.
