Haida bead artist speaks at Peninsula College

Haida bead artist Susan Hamilton discusses her art and inspirations at Peninsula College’s Studium Generale at 12:35 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 15, in the college’s Little Theater. The event is free.

PAFAC exhibits layered paintings

“The Open Circle,” an exhibit of paintings by Marlana Stoddard Hayes, opens at the Port Angeles Fine Arts Center Friday on Nov. 16, with a reception from 5-6:30 p.m. The show continues through Feb. 3, 2013.

A widely exhibited artist originally from Oregon, Stoddard builds her canvases with transparent glazes of oil and mushroom spores to resemble strata of sedimentary rock.

P.A. Garden Club shows holiday designs

The Port Angeles Garden Club holds its general meeting at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 19, at the First Presbyterian Church, 139 W. Eighth St., Port Angeles.

The program, “Designs for the Holidays,” is presented by members who are National Garden Club Flower Show judges. Bring a container and plants to create a floral arrangement with their help.

A sack lunch follows at 12:30 p.m. Guests and potential members are welcome to the free event.

Lavender growers seek art for 2013 festival show

The Sequim Lavender Growers Association invites artists to submit lavender-themed artwork for its 17th Sequim Lavender Festival juried artwork competition.

The grand prize winner receives $750 and the artwork becomes the official 2013 poster art. To be considered for the “People’s Choice,” artwork should be submitted by Nov. 15: The printed artwork will be on display at the SLGA’s 10th annual Holiday Bazaar at Carrie Blake Park, Nov. 23-24, for public voting. Shakespeare comes to P.C.

Oregon Shakespeare Festival actors Laura Montes and Orion Bradshaw, from Ashland, Ore., present two public performances at Peninsula College’s Little Theater, 1502 E. Lauridsen Blvd., Port Angeles, on Tuesday, Nov. 20.

The 9:10 a.m. program, “The Course of True Love Never Did Run Smooth,” features both Shakespeare and modern playwrights.

The 12:35 p.m. program, “Live, and Deal with Others Better,” includes excerpts from Shakespeare’s “Taming of the Shrew,” “Midsummer Night’s Dream,” “King Lear” and “Cymbeline.” Both performances are free and open to the public.

Sea glass classes at SARC

Sequim Aquatic Recreation Center, 610 N. Fifth Ave., offers a four-week course in making sea glass jewelry each Thursday beginning Dec. 6.
