Blessing of animals set
A tradition that started nearly 800 years ago — the blessing of animals — will be observed with prayer and song at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 9, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 100 S. Blake Ave.
The public is invited to bring pets, on a leash or in a carrier, to the outdoor service in front of the church. Those whose pets have died may bring a picture of them, or name them, and a prayer of remembrance will be offered.
The Rev. Desi Larson, pastor, will lead the service, along with Trinity musicians.
St. Francis of Assisi introduced the idea that humans are not the only creations blessed by God. Over the centuries, churches around the world have held animal-blessing services, generally in early October.
