Purple is the color of Sequim’s lavender blooms and represents supportive spiritual efforts, dignity, royal thoughtfulness and camaraderie. Find works of art and folks supporting the option to dress in tints and shades of purple as they enjoy a night on the town with friends and fellow Sequimmers preparing for Lavender Weekend later in the month.
See plenty of red, white and blue for the anniversary of the adoption of the United States of America’s Declaration of Independence and the Art Walk has many places to celebrate in style.
Special events for July 4
• Pacific Pantry is exhibiting fine art photography and greeting cards of Jan Kepley at 229 S. Sequim Ave. Resonance Cards is a line of greeting cards that uses gentle imagery to help you express feelings, emotions, thoughts and caring by Kay and Jan Kepley. They encourage people to use their cards to connect with others to thank them, hug them, appreciate them, celebrate them and in this small way make their day a little brighter.
• End your First Friday in July with an “Unusual Evening in Sequim” at Olympic Theatre Arts Center. This month’s production offers a mixture of lavender (for the festival) and mystery (because “Sherlock Holmes: the Final Adventure” opens July 11) with “The Case of the Case of Missing Lavender,” an original radio play. Featured artists include Susan Dwyer, Keith Curtis, Heidi Hansen, Tom Darter, Karen Hogan and mystery artists.
Bring friends, buy a glass of wine, enjoy the cabaret atmosphere in the Gathering Hall. An unusual and entertaining evening it will be.

• Blue Whole Gallery, 129 W. Washington St. Make your Independence Day memorable by visiting the Blue Whole Gallery during the First Friday Art Walk from 5-8 p.m. Award-winning painter Deborah Sterk and well-known watercolorist Margo Hankel are the featured artists for July. Meet the artists from 5-8 p.m.
• Colors of Sequim, 139 W. Washington St. The Boys & Girls Club will be showing members’ work in the back class room area during normal business hours during July beginning First Friday from 5-8 p.m.
• The Rainshadow Artists will be featured for July with a meet and greet First Friday from 5-8 p.m. Featured are works by Jette Monahan, Suzi Morris, Brenda Boggs Newman, Betsy Robins and Sandy Wolf. The Rainshadow Artists is a local group of watercolor artists who meet once a week to paint, commiserate, critique and support one another.
• Gallery at the Fifth, 500 W. Hendrickson St. The July featured artists are Carol Yada and Kim McBride. Yada does watercolors, oils and acrylics and McBride does watercolors and acrylics. A reception is 1-3 p.m. July 6.
• LARC Gallery, 425 E. Washington St., features many local artists and a special exhibit of watercolors and photography by Jim Gift called “For the Love of Nature.”
• Sequim Middle School cafeteria, 301 W. Hendrickson Road. The Middle School will host the Olympic Driftwood Sculptors 6th Annual Lavender Weekend Driftwood Show from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. July 18-20. Admission is free. Demonstrations of works-in-progress will be on-going throughout the show. Raffle tickets will be on sale for a chance to win a driftwood sculpture created by club members.
• Rainshadow Roasting Company, 157 W. Cedar St. Sample coffee brewed from beans roasted and ground on premises. Open First Friday from 5-8 p.m.
• Sequim Library, 630 N. Sequim Ave. Pam Dick will be showing her Fractal Designs from July 1-Aug. 31 during normal business hours. An artist’s reception is on Frist Friday, 6-7:30 p.m.
• Sequim Museum & Arts Center, 175 W. Cedar St. Artists’ reception on First Friday from 5-7 p.m. Exhibit “Flowers, Flowers, Flowers” from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Thursday-Saturday, July 4-26.
• Strait Financial Advice, 193 W. Cedar St. Scott Erickson exhibits his photographic scenes of the Southwest, Alaska, North Olympic Peninsula and other locations in the U.S. on a rotating basis.
• Sunshine Café, 145 W. Washington St. The works of the late Tim Quinn will be shown open for First Friday from 5-8 p.m. Try a hand at the unique as you affordable art machine and get an original button by Renne Emiko Brock-Richmond.
• Wind Rose Cellars, 143 W. Washington St. Local artists. Open to 9 p.m on First Friday with wine tasting and the Blue Holiday Band.
• Bank of America, 114 S. Sequim Ave. Judy Priest’s watercolors on display only during normal business hours.
• R&T Crystals and Beads will sparkle with jewelry demonstrations at 158 E. Bell St. 5-8 p.m.

• Landing Artists Studio, 115 Railroad Ave. A working studio with live art demonstrations. Come meet the artists. Second Friday-Saturday Art Walk, July 11-12 from 5-8 p.m.
• Heatherton Gallery, 115 Railroad Ave. Featuring 36 artists in various mediums. Second Friday-Saturday Art Walk, July 11-12 from 5-8 p.m. Open 10 a.m.-4 p.m. daily.
