The Sequim City Band celebrates the 1960s in another decade of music honoring Sequim’s Centennial.

Director Tyler Benedict leads the band in concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 16, in the James Center For the Performing Arts next to Carrie Blake Park.

KONP’s Todd Ortloff will be the announcer.

The band shares the stage with The Olympic Winds Ensemble under the direction of Nancy Peterson. This group consists of all members of the clarinet family from the piccolo clarinet to the incredibly large and loud contrabass clarinet.

Peterson leads her group in well-known pieces heard over television and radio at the time, including “Hogan’s Heroes March,” by Jerry Fielding; “When I’m Sixty-Four,” by John Lennon and Paul McCartney, arranged by Deena Patfield of the Sequim City Band; and “The Pink Panther,” by Henry Mancini.

Benedict leads the Sequim City Band in other classic songs of the sixties, including Elmer Bernstein’s theme from “The Magnificent Seven” and “The Great Escape”; Leonard Bernstein’s “West Side Story”; an arrangement of Beatles music; “Variations on a Korean Folksong” by John Barnes Chance; and Sousa’s “The Pride of the Wolverines.”

As always, the concert is free of charge. Come with a lawn chair, sun (or rain) protection.
