Six virtuoso guitarists — The California Guitar Trio and the Montreal Guitar Trio — take the stage 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 17, at the Port Angeles High School Auditorium, 304 E. Park Ave., in Port Angeles.
The groups fuse more than 40 years of combined performing experience into one unique six-by-six-string “phenomensemble” crossing into rock, jazz, world music, surf music and classical music.
The California Guitar Trio has 14 albums and 1,500 concerts under its belt, the band gained notoriety in the early 1990s opening for John McLaughlin and King Crimson, and The Space Shuttle Endeavor used its pieces as wake-up music.
The Montreal Guitar Trio has been described by the BBC as “the hottest guitar ensemble in Canada.” It also won the 2011 Opus Prize for concert of the year in the Jazz/World Music category.
Tickets for the performances range from $15-$25 and are available at Pacific Mist Books in Sequim, Port Book and News in Port Angeles, online through jffa.org and at the door.
The event is a joint production of the Juan de Fuca Foundation and Arts Northwest. For more information, call 457-5411 or e-mail danmaguire@jffa.org.Guitar trios form sextuplet ensemble
