As tradition, Sequim Irrigation Festival leaders unveiled next year’s event logo and tagline at a special volunteer luncheon last weekend.
Local designer Sherry Scharschmidt was chosen to design the logo for the festival’s 129th year with the tagline: “2024 Mountains to shore whatever you’re looking for.”
The festival’s marketing director Michelle Rhodes and fellow volunteer Lily Williams revealed Scharschmidt’s artwork on Oct. 21 inside The Oasis Bar and Grill on Oct. 21.
“We think it represents Sequim really well,” Rhodes said.
Scharschmidt designed the festival’s logo in 2008. Planning for each year starts about two years in advance with the tagline chosen in November 2022, organizers said.
Last year’s “128 Out the Gate” logo followed more of a poster design, Rhodes said, whereas this year is more of a logo design.
For the festival’s 130th year, they’re planning on putting out request for proposals for both a logo and a piece of art to fit the theme. The art piece is something they’d consider auctioning off similarly to what other festivals do, Rhodes said.
Organizers look to make the festival’s 130th year a big celebration as they weren’t able to emphasize its 125th year as much due to Covid-19.
Festival things to know:
• The royalty pageant will be held Feb. 24, 2024 with practices happening now.
• The festival’s kickoff dinner/auction will be held March 23, 2024.
• The festival’s 129th year will be held May 3 – 12, 2024.
With the festival an all-volunteer organization, volunteers are needed in various capacities, including a volunteer coordinator, signs coordinator, and a food court coordinator for Carrie Blake Community Park.
