Kiwanis help first-graders with new bulletin boards

First-grade teacher Jennifer Saul and her class can now post thank you’s to the Sequim-Dungeness Kiwanis Club and the Sequim Community Helping Kids group.

Saul recently put out a request for bulletin boards in her Helen Haller Elementary classroom to Nan Burris with the Sequim Community Helping Kids who connect teachers with needed resources.

Burris contacted Kiwanis, which led by members Ted Lund and Wayne Boden, constructed four new bulletin boards for Saul’s classroom. Club members said they paid for the bulletin boards with donations and funds from selling food from the concession stand at Dr. Standard Park during the Little League season.

To show their appreciation, Saul’s class made cards, sang “Thank you Kiwanis” and a few students spoke up saying it helps them find “stuff we need to see all the time” and “I like it because it helps me spell words.”

The Sequim-Dungeness Kiwanis Club focuses on helping children ages pre-birth to 18 and meets at noon the second and fourth Tuesday of each month starting again in 2017 at Paradise Restaurant.
