Land Trust helps conserve Dungeness Hub

Another Sequim-area farm is under protection thanks to community support and funding from Washington state and Clallam County Conservation Futures, the North Olympic Land Trust (NOLT) announced last week.

The conservation easement for the farm, dubbed the Dungeness Hub, was finalized on Tuesday, April 11.

Farmers need fields, but they also need critical infrastructure like the refrigeration units and packing shed at Dungeness Hub to make sure that their produce can get to market,” NOLT representatives said last week.

Following the conservation of Mid Valley Farm in January, this is the 25th local farm the Land Trust has worked with the community to help permanently protect, organization representatives noted.

The organization is currently on track to meet their goal of doubling the pace of farmland conservation in Clallam County in the next 10 years while continuing to meet habitat conservation goals, they said.

North Olympic Land Trust is “dedicated to the conservation of open spaces, local food, local resources, healthy watersheds and recreational opportunities.”

Since its founding in 1990, the Land Trust has conserved more than 3,700 acres across the North Olympic Peninsula.
