Students’ ‘Walk for Water’ looks to fund well

Interact Club and Sequim Sunrise Rotary members continued their annual Walk for Water fundraiser on April 15. This year, they seek funds to build a well in Ghana.

The Sequim High School students and Rotarians walked about four miles from Sequim Middle School to the Dungeness River and back, carrying gallons of river water to fundraise and raise awareness for those in other countries who walk numerous hours daily to gather water.

Students partnered with the Rotary Club and raised money last year to build a well in Congo, and sought $4,200 this year to build the second well.

Organizers say as of press time they are about $638 from their goal.

Those looking to help their efforts can mail a check to: Sequim High School, 601 N. Sequim Ave., Sequim, WA, 98382; make checks out to “Sequim High School Interact Club” with a memo note for “well initiative.”

Students first participated in Walk for Water in 2017, seeking funds for cisterns in Africa.

Interact Club, a Rotary International youth program for ages 14-18, is under the guidance of Sequim Sunrise Rotarian Colleen Robinson and SHS teacher Chelsea Reichner.
