Milestone: Sequim Food Bank gets big boost from community partners

Sequim Food Bank recently partnered with the Sequim Gazette, Assured Hospice, Dungeness Courte Memory Care, Sequim Health and Rehabilitation, Sherwood Assisted Living, The Fifth Avenue, The Lodge at Sherwood Village and Trustwell Living at Sinclair Place for a “Fill the Cart” event from March 15-April 15.

The event saw 2,741 pounds of donated non-perishable food during the 30-day event, and $1,775 was raised through online donations in support of the event.

“We are so grateful to the community being so supportive of this ‘Fill the Cart’ food drive event, which will help feed our community. The businesses really made this a fun competition trying to see who could collect the most food,” said Andra Smith, Sequim Food Bank’s executive director.

“Whoever said laughter was the best medicine obviously never donated to the Sequim Food Bank,” said Cynthia Kazlauskas, manager of market development at Sequim Health and Rehabilitation.

The donated items, which include canned goods, pasta, cereal, and other essential supplies, will be distributed during Sequim Food Bank’s weekly food distribution days, held 1-4 p.m. on Mondays, and 9 a.m.-noon on Fridays and Saturdays.

Sequim Food Bank, at 144 W. Alder St., is a 501(c)3 nonprofit that relies entirely on the support of the community. In 2023, Sequim Food Bank fed more than 15,000 families thanks to the financial support of many thoughtful individuals, organizations, businesses, church congregations and local foundations.
