PEO’s 10th-annual holiday bazaar features gifts, baked goods, crafts

The holidays must be right around the corner.

Members of the Philanthropic Educational Organization (P.E.O.) Chapter JC are setting the stage for their 10th-annual holiday bazaar, scheduled for 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, at Sequim Community Church, 950 N. Fifth Ave.

The annual event offers an array of gift items, including original hand-made crafts, unique Christmas decorations, homemade baked goods and food-stuffs, hand-made cards, used books, puzzles and plants.

This year’s raffle features a twin-bed quilt created by local quilt artisan Esther Alward, as well as a matching set of hand-crafted quilted place-mats and table runner, and a ceramic cookie jar filled with delicious treats.

Shoppers can buy $1 raffle tickets at the bazaar for the individual items. Three winning tickets will be drawn at 1 p.m. at the bazaar.; winners need not be present.

A silent auction has been added to this year’s bazaar, featuring a hand-cross stitched, hand-quilted, double-bed quilt made in the 1960s in St. Joseph, Mo.

The annual bazaar raises funds for P.E.O. International scholarships, grants, awards and loans to help women enhance their lives through learning.

“The bazaar always provides one of the most enticing early holiday shopping experiences for those seeking original, highly-valued items at reasonable prices,” P.E.O. Chapter president Joan Bennett said. “Shoppers always walk away with treasures.”

Chapter JC is one of 13 P.E.O. chapters on the Olympic Peninsula. The Philanthropic Educational Organization has been a pioneering force for women’s education since 1869.

Today, P.E.O. has more than 238,000 members in the United States and Canada.
