Hart’s Fine Books, 161 W. Washington St., Sequim, announces the release of “Becoming Piper Pan” by Lindy MacLaine, a sequel to her debut novel, “The Curse of the Neverland.”

It’s a coming of age fantasy adventure woven with themes of self-esteem, the transformative power of friendship and the fueling power of dreams.

The author will appear from 5-8 p.m. Friday, March 4, at Hart’s Fine Books during the First Friday Art Walk, signing copies of both her books. While a children’s book on the surface, MacLaine insists it is relevant at any age. In addition to her work as an author, MacLaine is a Life Purpose Coach whose message inspires and empowers people in the second bloom of life to reclaim their dreams, reignite their passions and rekindle their joy.

In “Becoming Piper Pan,” the book’s central question, faced by multiple characters from different perspectives, is “how to become who one is meant to be.” From one perspective, the book might be seen as a fable about personal growth, in the tradition of “The Alchemist,” by Paolo Coelho.

“The truth is that life is an on-going journey,” said MacLaine. “Growing out of childhood is an enormous accomplishment — but adulthood is not the finish line. If we are doing things right, we continue to grow until we die. There is always a way to deepen our understanding and expression of who we are meant to be,” she advised.

“The most painless learning we do is through stories,” MacLaine said, “and there’s a vital connection between who we are as children and our most energized, vital adult selves. Stories for children often serve this broader question of how to grow into who we really are.”The books are advertised for ages 10-100.

“They make especially good gifts from hip grandmothers, cool aunts and awesome moms to the kids they love ages 10-12. Most of my adult fans enjoy the books themselves first then gift them on. One of the things I’m most excited about is the way the books gives multiple generations a way to talk about the on-going journey of becoming.”

Fans will receive access to downloadable character posters and an all-ages coloring book when they visit www.PiperPanAndHerMerryBand.com and subscribe to the author’s e-mail newsletter.

The books are available online through Amazon.com and locally at Hart’s Fine Books and the gift shop at Nourish, 101 Provence View Lane, Sequim.
