Teya Priest Johnston, a local writer versed at drawing listeners into nature and compassion for human relationships, is the guest speaker at the next Fourth Friday Readings.

The event begins at 6:15 p.m. on Sept. 28 at The Lodge’s media room), 660 Evergreen Farm Way.

The event is free.

Johnston, a longtime resident of the Olympic Peninsula, writes poetry and fiction for “the sheer beauty and deep enjoyment of language.”

She gives credit to many talented local writers for support and encouragement.

“I was fortunate to study with poet and mentor Alice Derry for several years,” Johnston says. “I now work with writers, Ruth Marcus and Judy Duncan, poet/pals of exemplary capability.”

Johnston says she draws on her early years in North Carolina for much of her inspiration. Her work has appeared in Tidepools, Craven Arts, Passager and several anthologies.

She lives on Blue Mountain with “hero/hubby” Rick, three happy dogs and a colossal flower garden.

Fourth Friday Readings attendees are encouraged to arrive early — beverages and snacks are available at The Lodge’s bistro.
