Composer Brenda Jennings will play her own arrangements of sacred music at a performance benefitting the Sequim Food Bank at 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 1, at Dungeness Valley Lutheran Church, 925 N. Sequim Ave.

Jennings, who serves as the part-time pianist for Dungeness Valley Lutheran Church services, promises “both classic renditions and adaptations with pizazz at the concert,” for which both donations of cash and nonperishable food are requested.

A Sequim resident since 2010, Jennings earned her master’s degree in musicology and composition at the University of Nebraska.

She is also a graduate of Eastern New Mexico University, where she received a bachelor’s degree in music theory and composition.

“We are so grateful for people like Brenda, who volunteer their talent and time to help us,” Andra Smith, Sequim Food Bank executive director, said.

Smith said contributions at the concert will help fund the Food Bank’s Family Holiday Food Boxes, which are distributed between Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Each box costs about $45, and last year more than 1,400 were distributed.

This year, with Sequim Food Bank patronage increasing, Smith anticipates more boxes will be needed.

Established in 1984, the Sequim Food Bank receives donations of nonperishables from local churches and businesses, and cash contributions from such special events as this concert.
