Seattle Theatre nominates SHS’s Brown for award

Heather Brown, a junior at Sequim High School, was nominated for a 5th Avenue High School Musical Theatre award.

Brown was nominated in the Non-Singing Actor or Actress category for her portrayal of Milky White in "Into the Woods."

The 5th Avenue annually honors work, talent and commitment that students, parents and faculty devote to their school’s musical productions.

Each year, adjudicators from 5th Avenue visit high schools throughout Washington state, attending musical productions.

Nominations are made in categories such as overall musical production, lead actors, supporting actors, chorus, ensemble group, direction, music direction, choreography, orchestra, design, stage crew, lobby display and program design.

Seven high school actors or productions from the Olympic and Kitsap peninsulas were nominated.

Gig Harbor, Klahowya, North Kitsap, Olympic and Port Townsend each received two individual or group honors, with Sequim, Bremerton and Peninsula receiving one nomination each.

The awards were announced in a Tony Awards-style show June 7 at the Seattle theater.
