Sequim High School band members and eighth graders from Sequim Middle School’s band participated Sept. 6 in the University of Washington’s 72nd annual Husky Band Day, the longest continuing event of its kind in the country, organizers said.
An estimated 2,500 musicians from 32 schools in Washington and Canada joined the 270-member Husky Band at halftime on the field of the football game between the Huskies and UC Davis Aggies. UW went on to win 70-10.
The bands performed five songs, including “Land of 1,000 Dances,” “Poker Face,” and the Husky’s fight song “Bow down to Washington.”
Band Director George Rodes led Sequim’s bands for the event and said it was “a truly unforgettable experience” and that the students “performed with tremendous spirit, energy, and pride.”
Students, staff and parent volunteers left early Saturday morning for Seattle and returned to Sequim around 2 a.m. Sunday, Rodes said.
