Sequim Free Clinic’s annual fun walk set for Saturday

Hoping to once again boost efforts to help provide health care for uninsured neighbors, organizers of the annual Clinic Fun Walk and Health Fair invite the community to its big fundraiser.

The 5-kilometer fun walk gets started at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 12, at the Sequim Medical Plaza, 777 N. Fifth Ave.

All proceeds from the walk go to the Dungeness Valley Health and Wellness Clinic, Sequim’s free clinic. This year, the clinic has secured $10,000 in matching funds and are hoping to reach a goal of $30,000.

The free event is the clinic’s only fundraiser of the year; donations are welcome, but not required.

Registration opens at 9:30 a.m. for individuals, families and teams who choose to walk or run from the clinic to West Hendrickson Road and on the Olympic Discovery Trail to the Dungeness River Bridge and back. All pets must be leashed on the walk.

Participants from previous walks may recall the event has a 1-mile option, which is still offered.

After the walk, participants are encouraged to visit the health fair. There will be screenings for blood pressure, blood sugar and oxygen saturation and a variety of health and wellness information and services will be available.

The Walk and Health Fair is a fun way to support the clinic’s mission of providing continued access to health care for those in need in our community,” organizers say.

The clinic provides basic urgent care and chronic health care services to uninsured community members. The work is supported by more than 70 volunteers, including physicians, other professional health care providers and laypersons, as well as private and public donations from the Sequim community and beyond.

The clinic’s 2023 Proud Supporter Sponsors include Jamestown Family Health Clinic, KSQM FM Radio Station, Olympic Medical Center and Castell Insurance, Sound Community Bank, First Federal Bank and several private donors.

The Basic Urgent Care Clinic is open to patients starting at 5 p.m. on Mondays and Thursdays. Individuals interested in supporting the clinic may call 360-582-0218.
