Take time to go ’Rockhounding Around the Olympics’

In keeping with the 2018 Summer Reading Program theme of “Libraries Rock!” Garret Romaine presents “Rockhounding Around the Olympics” at all North Olympic Library System locations in early August.

Romaine visits the Sequim Library, 630 N. Sequim Ave., at 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 4, when he will talk about the interesting geology of the Olympic Peninsula and share how the regional structure has resulted in fascinating rockhounding opportunities that include fossils, minerals, rocks and gold panning.

Romaine has a bachelor’s degree in geology from the University of Oregon and a master’s degree in geography from the University of Washington. He is the author of several books on Pacific Northwest field collecting, including “Gem Trails of Washington,” “Gem Trails of Oregon,” “Rockhounding Idaho” and “Gold Panning the Pacific Northwest”; limited copies will be available for purchase.

Romaine will also talk about his new book, “Geology Lab for Kids”; attendees are encouraged to bring questions and take notes.

The Summer Reading Program is supported by the Friends of the Library at all four library system branches libraries. For more information about the Summer Reading Program and other events, visit www.nols.org/srp, call 360-417-8500 or email to discover@nols.org.
