Three local heavy metal/hard rock bands are making a jump across Puget Sound to leave a loud impact.
Jack Havoc, Trioxin and Distinction — all from Sequim and Port Angeles — open for comedy-rock band Green Jellÿ (pronounced Green Jello) this Friday, Nov. 2, in Seattle.
Jonathon Promer, drummer for Jack Havoc, said the band opened for Green Jellÿ more than a year ago to a packed house and plan to do the same this time.
Green Jellÿ is known for its 1990s hit “Three Little Pigs,” Grammy nominated video-album “333,” and its off-the-wall stage shows.
Promer said he began listening to Green Jellÿ when he was 12 and sees the chance for three local bands taking the stage with Green Jellÿ as a big opportunity.
“I believe if we open for a nationally known act, we can bring in our own music here,” Promer said.
“The goal is to make Sequim and Port Angeles like Austin’s (Texas) underground music scene. People go to see unknown bands there every night.”
Promer cites other local hard rock/heavy metal outfits like Never Met a Dead Man and Super Happy Story Time Land as bands making big splashes to help to put Sequim/ Port Angeles on the map in the underground rock scene.
“There’s nothing else to do but rock out,” he said. “A lot of great bands are coming from here.”
If enough people turn out locally and buy tickets in advance, Promer said it could help local bands to play more in the Seattle area.
Jack Havoc started about 13 years ago and consists of regular guys who work in restaurants, at 7 Cedars Casino and in recycling. A few years ago the band, comic book fans, adapted the label of real-life superhero metal.
Promer, also known as The Ded Beat, said there are thousands of real-life superheroes in the world fighting crime like Seattle superhero Phoenix Jones.
For concerts, some of the band, like Promer, dress up in the superhero alter-egos.
Following the Seattle concert, Jack Havoc is looking to release its 16-track album “Summer of Monsters” in 2013.
Along with Jack Havoc, Promer is keeping himself busy with other endeavors like Your Mom Comics, a small independent comic book company he co-founded with his friends. One of his many plans with the company is to release a Jack Havoc comic next year. He’s also exploring options to have a show on KSQM of all local music.
Jack Havoc’s members include Keegan Scales on vocals, Jarred Haughey, rhythm guitar, Jared Williams, lead guitar, Jeremy Gelisse, bass, and Promer on drums. Local disc jockey DJOB1 is a freelance member who layers electronic music over the heavy metal.
