Clallam County Fire District 3 reported to a brush fire at 2:41 p.m. Friday afternoon near Woodcock Road.

Firefighter/ EMT James Brown said sparks from a hay cutter likely caused the fire on July 17 to burn 2 ½ acres.

Brown said the fire was heading towards two homes on Frank Road and Laura Lane but they were able to protect them.

“The wind drove the fire through the hay and had the potential to take off,” Brown said.

Smoke filled the surrounding area including nearby attractions for Sequim Lavender Weekend.

Fourteen fire units reported to the scene from Clallam County Fire District 3, Clallam County Fire District 2, the Department of Natural Resources, and Clallam County Sheriff’s Office.

Brown said no injuries were reported directly from the fire.
