City of Sequim seeking commission, committee members

The City of Sequim is accepting applicants for open positions on planning commission, civil service commission and lodging tax committee groups.

Planning Commission

This voluntary commission serves as the Sequim City Council’s primary advisory body on policies, regulations, and capital spending related to growth and development. It may also conduct proceedings on specific land use applications such as subdivisions.

The city is seeking applicants to fill two open positions; one four-year term expires Dec. 31, 2023, and the other on Dec. 31, 2024. Applicants must be City of Sequim residents.

The commission meets at 6 p.m. on the first and third Tuesday of each month, with meetings lasting one to two hours. The only extra time commitment is to review meeting materials to be prepared for commission discussion and to attend infrequent public meetings and events as an observer.

Civil Service Commission

The commission performs certain personnel-related aspects of the Sequim Police Department, as well as serving as a review body for police disciplinary actions.

The city is seeking applicants to fill one open position, with a term ending Dec. 31, 2026. State law requires applicants must be a U.S. citizen, a registered voter in Clallam County, and have three years of residency in the City of Sequim preceding their appointment.

It meets at 8:30 a.m. the first Tuesday of each month.

Lodging Tax Advisory Committee

The City is seeking one representative to serve on the Lodging Tax Advisory Committee. The appointee must be a representative of an activity authorized to be funded by revenue received from lodging tax funds, such as a visitor information center, tourism bureau, festival or activities that are advertised outside of the area that attracts tourists.

This committee consists of five voting members appointed by the Sequim City Council. One member must be a city council member, who will serve as chair.

Two members must be representatives of businesses required to collect the lodging tax and two members must be persons involved in activities authorized to be funded by revenue received from lodging tax funds. The voluntary board meets on a quarterly basis.

All public meetings are currently held virtually via Zoom because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
