City of Sequim seeking commissioners for open seats

The City of Sequim is seeking applicants for open seats on two commissions.

All public meetings are currently held virtually via Zoom because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Sequim has two open positions on the Planning Commission; one four-year term expires Dec. 31, 2023, the other ends on Dec. 31, 2024. Applicants must be City of Sequim residents.

This voluntary commission serves as the City Council’s primary advisory body on policies, regulations, and capital spending related to growth and development. It may also conduct proceedings on specific land use applications such as subdivisions.

The Planning Commission meets at 6 p.m. the first and third Tuesday of each month with meetings lasting up to two hours. The only extra time commitment, city officials note, is to review meeting materials to be prepared for commission discussion and to attend infrequent public meetings and events as an observer.

City officials are also seeking to fill two open Civil Service Commission positions, with one term ending Dec. 31, 2026, and the second ending Dec. 31, 2027.

State law requires that this commission’s applicants must be a U.S. citizen, a registered voter in Clallam County and have three years of residency in the City of Sequim preceding their appointment.

The Sequim Civil Service Commission performs certain personnel-related aspects of the Sequim Police Department, as well as serving as a review body for police disciplinary actions.

The commission meets at 8:30 a.m. the first Tuesday of each month.
