Centennial Place open house set for Jan. 5

City of Sequim staff seek input on the development of Centennial Place on the northeast corner of Sequim Avenue and Washington Street through an open house from 3-5 p.m. Friday, Jan. 5, in the Sequim Civic Center, 152 W. Cedar St.

The public can view three concept level designs developed by Jett Landscape Architects.

If you’re unable to attend, an online survey will be available throughout January at sequimwa.gov.

Texting scam spotted

Sequim School District officials say a text message has been received by residents in the community purportedly from a district staff member asking people to purchase gift cards for the school district. The texts are a scam officials said.

“Please notify us if you have received this message,” officials said in notifications to school district families. “The Sequim School District will never ask for you to purchase gift cards on their behalf.”

Sequim Soroptimists seeking show vendors

Soroptimist International of Sequim is looking for potential garden related vendors for their upcoming show scheduled for March 16-17. For this is juried show, potential vendors need to offer 75% of their products and/or artware to be garden related. Interested parties can contact vendor@sequimgardenshow.com for more information and applications.

Sponsorship opportunities are available now for the 129th Sequim Irrigation Festival (May 3-12).

“Through the generous support of our sponsors and community partners, we are able produce and deliver this festival year after year,” festival representatives said.

The festival started in 1896 and is the longest continuous running festival in Washington state coordinated by a 501(c)4 nonprofit, all-volunteer organization.

Republican caucuses set for Jan. 13

Clallam County Republican Caucuses will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 13, at various locations.

This free event is designed for any voters who vote Republican and to gather grassroots input for the organization’s platform and candidate preferences for 2024 election.

Delegates to the County Convention will be chosen. Seating will be by precinct.

Caucus locations will be Sequim Elks Lodge, 143 Port Williams Lodge, Port Angeles High School library, 304 E. Park Ave., and Forks Athletic & Aquatic Club, 91 Maple Ave. Picture ID will be required. Register at 9:30 a.m., with caucuses at 10 a.m.

County names Drug Court coordinator

Clallam County Superior Court on Dec. 21 announced that Candice Lawler has been hired as the new Drug Court coordinator. She will assume her new duties in January 2024.

Lawler has a wealth of experience in the substance abuse treatment field, county representatives said. For many years she has been a member of the drug court team as a representative of her treatment agency.

Clallam County Superior Court operates two Drug Court programs, Adult Drug Court and Juvenile Drug Court),for those charged with drug-related crimes and offers an alternative to criminal prosecution.
