Shipley Center Christmas luncheon set

The Shipley Center hosts a Christmas luncheon with seatings at 11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 20. Tickets are $12 for members, $15 for non-members. The event is catered by The Cafe at Shipley Center and features a traditional Christmas dinner with sides and dessert. Entertainment is by Carlos Xavier. Have your picture taken with Santa. Donate a toy and be entered in a gift basket drawing. The event is sponsored by Dungeness Courte Memory Care, Home Instead Senior Care, First Federal and Sequim Health & Rehabilitation. KSQM has open house today

KSQM, 577 W. Washingon St., Sequim, will have an open house from noon-4 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 7, commemorating the National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day and the 75thanniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor. The station also will be celebrating the eighth anniversary of KSQM 91.5 FM.

Commission to talk bed-and- breakfast standards, restrictions

The Clallam County Planning Commission meets at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 7, at the Clallam County Courthouse, 223 E. Fourth St., Port Angeles. The meeting agenda includes discussion about development standards and restrictions for bed and breakfast inns in single-family homes. Call 417-2277 for more information.

Open house, tours at The Lodge

The Lodge & Cottages at Sherwood Village, 660 Evergreen Farm Way, Sequim, invites the public to its holiday open house from 2-4 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 8, with Christmas music and tours of the apartments and cottages. Bring a donation for the Sequim Food Bank and be entered to win a holiday gift basket.

Sequim Girl Scouts sing for food

A group of Sequim Girl Scouts will sing carols and have a food drive for the Sequim Food Bank from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 9, at Centennial Place, at the corner of Washington Street and Sequim Avenue. The food bank would like donations of peanut butter, tuna and macaroni and cheese, but all donations will be accepted. The Girl Scouts are wanting to partner with the community in helping community members who are in need of a little help.

CCGS hosts holiday social

The Clallam County Genealogical Society is hosting a holiday social from 11 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 10, at its research library at 402 E. Lauridsen Blvd. Come and sample holiday goodies while browsing the collection of genealogical resources housed in the library and talk with knowledgeable genealogical society members.

Book sale set

The Friends of Sequim Library will hold its monthly book sale from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 10, at the Friends building behind the Sequim Library at 630 N. Sequim Ave. Specials for this month include multiple volumes by historian David McCullough, how-to books on origami, instructions and music for beginning guitar and harmonica, an extensive selection of books on birds, insects and other wildlife identification, 300 brand new illustrated how-to books on quilting, sewing, knitting and crochet.

Training set for homeless count

Shelter Providers Network will meet from 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 14, for training of volunteers and agency staff who will help with the annual National Street and Shelter Point-In-Time Count of homeless people in Clallam and Jefferson counties. Commerce trainer Ian Kinder-Pyle will be the trainer. Serenity House will host the training in the Tempest ballroom, 535 E. First St., Port Angeles.

Bird rescues seek donations

The Northwest Raptor and Wildlife Center & Discovery Bay Wild Bird Rescue are nonprofit organizations that rely on public donations for their survival. They are looking for donations of bird seed, saw-whet owl boxes, Dawn dish soap, laundry soap, scrub brushes, metal bowls, tall kitchen and 55-gallon garbage bags, wet/dry cat and dog food, paper or cotton towels, disposable gloves and cleaning wipes. Monetary donations always are welcome. Donations can be dropped off anytime to Wild Birds Unlimited, 275953 U.S. Highway 101 in Gardiner.

Here comes ‘Frosty’s Winter Fest’

The Fifth Avenue senior living facility hosts “Frosty’s Winter Fest” from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 10, at 500 W. Hendrickson Road. Featuring more than 30 local vendors, the event also has live entertainment throughout the day, a youth coloring contest, free hot chocolate and five raffles, one for a 32-inch flat screen television. The event is a donation site for Peninsula Friends of Animals and Puppy Pilots. Receive additional raffle tickets for donations. For more information, call 683-3345.

Community invited to Grange potluck

The Sequim Prairie Grange invites the community to its annual Potluck Family Christmas Dinner at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 11. The Grange will provide turkey, dressing, potatoes, gravy and ham. The announcement of Granger and Non-Granger of the Year will be made and Santa Claus will pay a visit. The Grange Hall is at 290 Macleay Road, Sequim.

Eat, drink and be merry!

Join the Olympic Newcomers’ Club for its annual holiday party from 5-9 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 14, at C’est Si Bon restaurant, 23 Cedar Park Drive in Port Angeles. There will be dinner and dancing to the Vibratones.

The cost for members is $22 per person. Non-members $32 per person and non-members receive a six-month complimentary membership. Entry fee payable at the door. Clinic is drop-off for Toys for Tots

Blue Mountain Animal Clinic, 2972 Old Olympic Highway, Port Angeles, is joining the US Marine Corps in its Toys for Tots Campaign this year. The clinic will be collecting donations of new, unwrapped toys, coloring books and markers or crayons, games and puzzles for distribution to children in need. Donations will be accepted at the clinic. Anyone who brings in a donation will be entered into a drawing for a live, 5-foot, cork-barked, fir Christmas tree.

Senior Nutrition menu set

Sequim Senior Nutrition Site menus are served at 4:30 p.m. at the Shipley Center, 921 E. Hammond St. on Tuesdays-Fridays. Suggested donation is $5 (60 and over), $8 guest and a 24-hour advance reservation is needed. RSVP to 683-8491. Menus are subject to change.
