Civic center reopens to public

The Sequim Civic Center, 152 W. Cedar St., opened to the public on Monday, June 14.

Regular business hours are Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m.-4 p.m.

Members of the public are asked to wear a mask when they are in the civic center and will be asked to sign a log-in sheet and take their temperature for the safety of the public and city staff.

Residents are still encouraged to conduct business with the city through the phone and website when possible.

Mosaic, Parent to Parent sets conversation with Dr. Berry

Clallam Mosaic and Clallam County Parent to Parent are hosting a free virtual series “Bridges to Communication.” The first 30-minute session, “Tea with Dr. Berry: Conversations about COVID, Vaccines and Underlying Conditions” will be 4 p.m. on Thursday, June 17, via Zoom.

Dr. Allison Berry, Clallam County Health Officer, will be providing up to date information about the COVID vaccines and answering attendees’ questions.

Submitted questions address: long-term effects of the COVID vaccines; being afraid of needles; if the vaccine doesn’t prevent getting infected, why get vaccinated, and dealing with underlying health conditions.

Culture Talk series to spotlight ‘Cultural Appropriation’

“A Global Perspective on Cultural Appropriation,” the final presentation in Peninsula College’s Culture Talk series for the 2021-2022 academic year, will be held online at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, June 17.

The college’s Studium Generale program is partnering with ʔaʔkʷustəŋáw̕txʷ House of Learning, Peninsula College Longhouse for the event which will feature conversation and discussion with Kyle Pittman and Morgan Lewin.

Lewin is a student of the History Professorate at the Del Atuel Institute of Higher Education in Argentina. The institute’s research focuses on the political influences in Romantic era composition styles, as well as the intersection between folkloric and native rhythms and the composition of Latin American art music.

Pittman comes from the Nez Perce and Yakama peoples of the Plateau Region. He was raised on the Puyallup Indian Reservation in Tacoma, Washington and is currently a graduate student at both The Evergreen State College and George Mason University, studying tribal governance and digital public humanities.

Guild fundraiser set for June 26

The Sequim Guild of Seattle Children’s Hospital will be selling homemade baked goods at the Pumpkin Patch Flea Market — at the corner of US Highway 101 and Kitchen Dick Road — from 8 a.m. until goods are sold out, on Saturday, June 26.

Prices range from $5-$12 for pies, cookies, breads, jams and jellies, and more. The goodies are hand-crafted in the kitchens of the Sequim Guild members.

All funds received from sales go to uncompensated care and research at Seattle Children’s Hospital, where more than 900 Clallam County children received care last year.

Clallam County health sets vaccination events

Clallam County Public Health is hosting several COVID vaccination events in Port Angeles this summer.

Upcoming clinics include: 11:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Sunday, June 25, at the Port Angeles Food Bank, 632 N. Oakridge Dr.; 5:30-7:30 p.m. Monday, June 26, at the Port Angeles Lefties game at Civic Field, 307 S. Race St.; and 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Friday, June 30, at the Port Angeles Public Health Office, 111 E. Third St.

The June 30 event features Moderna, Johnson & Johnson and Pfizer shots and are by appointment only; call 360-417-2274 to schedule. Other events are walk in, no appointment needed. Attendees are asked to wear shot-sleeved T-shirts.

Preschool opens enrollment

Faith Lutheran Preschool in Sequim is currently enrolling students for the 2021-2022 school year.

Faith Lutheran offers programs for children ages 3-5.

Local office open to help disabled veterans

The Disabled American Veterans (DAV) office at 583 W. Washington St. is open 10 a.m.-3 p.m. each Wednesday, to serve veterans who are needing help with claims or other information.

Services are free and veterans do not have to be members of DAV to receive assistance.

The office is by walk-in; no appointment is necessary. Masks are required upon entrance.
