Rantz event a fundraiser for Sequim Museum

Sequim Museum & Arts hosts “The Boys in the Boat: A Daughter Remembers,” featuring Judy Rantz Willman, at 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 1, at the Sequim High School auditorium, 533 N. Sequim Ave.

Tickets are $20 and may be purchased at the door or online at SequimMuseum.com.

The event is a fundraiser for Sequim Museum & Arts.

Willman is the daughter of Joe Rantz, the former Sequim resident and 1936 Olympic Games gold medal winner. Rantz’s life is a central storyline to Daniel James Brown’s best-selling book, “The Boys in the Boat: Nine Americans and Their Quest for Gold at the 1936 Berlin Olympics.”

Discovery Bay closes to shellfish harvesting

Discovery Bay is closed to all species for recreational shellfish harvesting, Clallam County health officials said on March 22.

Sequim Bay is closed to butter and varnish clams only, while the Strait of Juan de Fuca — from Cape Flattery to the Jefferson County line, including Dungeness Bay — is open. Pacific Ocean beaches are closed to all species.

Closed to all species means clams (including geoduck), oysters, mussels and other invertebrates such as the moon snail, according to the Clallam County Department of Health and Human Services’ Environmental Health Division. All areas are closed for the sport harvest of scallops. These closures do not apply to shrimp.
