An anonymous donor is giving local animal advocates double the help with donations this summer.

The Olympic Peninsula Humane Society hit a major dip in funding this spring when the nonprofit had to postpone its Meowgaritas and Mutts, a fundraiser that typically brings in $200,000 and allows of OPHS to care for the 1,500-plus animals the organization sees annually.

That, plus a dip in adoption revenue, has OPHS seeking further financial help. An anonymous donor, however, recently pledged matching funds for the nonprofit of up to $25,000.

“Every donation, large or small, will help us save more lives and is greatly appreciated,” OPHS representatives said last week.

The matching donation offer is good through July 15.

Funds raised go directly to animal care and not to administration or marketing costs, OPHS executive director Luanne Hinkle said.

The organization has funded medical treatment for a number of animals recently, including the leg amputation for a 3-year-old cat named Radius, surgery to help an 11-year-old Yorkshire Terrier named Gladys with a mild collapsing trachea, and removal of two tumors from an American pitbull named Lucinda.

Originally scheduled for April 25, Meowgaritas and Mutts has been moved to Oct. 17 at the Vern Burton Community Center in Port Angeles.
