Emergency food, shelter funds available through federal grant

Clallam County was recently awarded a little more than $95,000 federal funds to help supplement emergency food and shelter programs in the county.

Under the terms of the grant from a national board, local agencies chosen to receive funds must: be private voluntary nonprofits or units of government; be eligible to receive Federal Funds; have an accounting system; practice non-discrimination; have demonstrated the capability to deliver emergency food and/or shelter programs; and, if they are a private non-voluntary organization, have a voluntary board.

Qualifying agencies are encouraged to contact the United Way of Clallam County at 360-457-3011 or by email at info@unitedwayclallam.org; the deadline to apply is Wednesday, June 10.

The funding was made available through the department of Homeland Security (DHS)/Federal Emergency Management Agency under the Emergency Food and Shelter National Board Program.

About $39,500 was awarded under Phase 37 of the Emergency Food and Shelter Program, and more than $56,000 was awarded under the Phase CARES of the Emergency Food and Shelter Program

A local board made of representatives along with other local government and nonprofit leaders is tasked with recommending distribution of these funds to help expand the capacity of food and shelter programs in high-need areas around the county.
