Expert to speak on autism disorder

Clallam Mosaic and the Developmental Disabilities Administration’s Clallam County Office will co-sponsor a presentation by regional clinical psychology associate, Dr. Edward Fischer, at 4 p.m. Thursday, May 21.

Clallam Mosaic and the Developmental Disabilities Administration’s Clallam County Office will co-sponsor a presentation by regional clinical psychology associate, Dr. Edward Fischer, at 4 p.m. Thursday, May 21.

The presentation will be in the Fellowship Hall of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 301 S. Lopez Ave., Port Angeles, and is open to the public.

Fischer has worked for more than 13 years with individuals with developmental disabilities. He is is a clinical psychology associate with the Regional Clinical Team, Region 3, Developmental Disability Administration.

He also is associate faculty member at two universities where he teaches clinical and forensic psychology and serves as dissertation chairman and committee member. His primary research interests are integrative medicine with a focus on treating individuals with dual diagnoses of developmental disabilities and mental illness.

Fischer’s seminar titled “Autism Spectrum Disorder” will inform families about what ASD is, what it is not, associated behaviors, diagnostic criteria, tips for supporting someone with ASD, resources and dual diagnoses.

Fischer’s presentation provides an opportunity for families to become better informed so that they can more effectively work with health care providers and help their children.

Admission is free, but registration is required to ensure that materials, food and child care are sufficient to support attendance.
