From trivia and bingo to poetry and improv acting, Sequim students got a variety of variations on the written word at Family Reading Night, held Jan. 28 at Sequim Middle School.
The event, sponsored by the Clallam County Literacy Council, Odyssey Books and the Sequim Education Foundation, and hosted by the school district’s four librarians — Sheri Kruckeberg, Elizabeth Lawson, Linsay Rapelje and Dena Riccobene — saw about 400 students and parents/guardians attend. Attendees were given their choice of three, 20-minute sessions, from “Harry Potter Bingo” and “Ginger Bread Man Stories” constructing quilt squares inspired by books, making Dr. Seuss hats, creating graphic novels and more — even making up their own “weird and creepy tales” with math teacher Rick Miko (pictured above).
Participants also could take part in a “Turn Dreams into Reality” scavenger hunt. Free books and prizes were given away at the end of the evening.
