Sequim City Manager Steve Burkett has appointed City Engineer and Assistant Public Works Director David Garlington to serve as the interim Public Works director for the City effective Dec. 1.

“David will be taking responsibility for the overall leadership and management of the Public Works Department along with the major projects Paul Haines has been leading,” Burkett said in recent memorandum to the Sequim City Council.

“He also will continue to be responsible for the internal project management for the Civic Center project,” Burkett said.

Garlington is a licensed professional engineer and has worked for the City of Sequim since April 2011. He was employed for 20 years with the Washington State Department of Transportation in Port Angeles prior to working for the city.

Haines announced in August that he was planning to leave his position at the end of November.

Burkett said that the city will begin recruiting for a permanent Public Works director in the next month or two and anticipates that the position will be filled by late winter or early spring of 2015.
