The Olympic Peninsula Visitor Bureau is accepting the last round of applications for its 2016 Tourism Enhancement Grants.

For 2016, $1,800 is left to award of the original $35,000 available at the beginning of the year.

Funds for this grant program are derived from revenue generated by the hotel/motel tax on lodging facilities, including RV and campsites not federally managed, in unincorporated Clallam County. This lodging tax revenue is designated for the promotion of tourism to encourage long-term economic growth through tourism-related projects or events that attract overnight guests within Clallam County.

The OPVB has awarded grants to a wide variety of applicants this year including events such as the Port Angeles Kayak and Film Festival, Forever Twilight in Forks and the Forest Storytelling Festival. New events like The Big Hurt race (an event that has been revived from several years ago) and the Northwest Colonial Festival (now in its second year) also have been awarded grant funds to support their growth and become more established.

Applications are due by Sept. 1 at the end of the day. Applications may be mailed or hand-delivered to the OPVB office.

Final approval for applications will be decided by the OPVB board of directors at its Sept. 21 board meeting.
