Once again, United Way of Clallam County is holding its annual Celebrity Bagging event in Sequim and Port Angeles on Saturday, Oct. 19, and later in the month in Forks.
Local “celebrities” volunteer their time bagging groceries and other items from noon-4 p.m. They will be wearing United Way aprons or “Live United” T-shirts and distributing fliers to show their support and gain attention for the annual United Way fund drive, which is currently under way.
This year’s campaign theme is “We Are United” with a goal of $1 million.
This is a public awareness event for United Way and allows the participating stores to show support for the needs in the community. Shoppers are encouraged to support United Way through donations at their work place or through the United Way mail campaign which includes letters to previous donors and a general mailer sent out in early November.
“Our volunteers and the local stores look forward to this event every year. It’s a fun afternoon to be out in the community, raising awareness about United Way and our annual campaign,” said Buck Geiseke, United Way’s 2013 Campaign chairman.
In Sequim, participating stores are Safeway, QFC, Sunny Farms and Grocery Outlet.
In Port Angeles, the celebrity baggers will be stationed at both Safeway stores, Albertson’s, Swain’s General Store and Country Aire.
In the West End, celebrity baggers will be on duty at Forks Outfitters in Forks later in October.
