Colleen McAleer, a candidate for the Port of Port Angeles Commission, has removed most of her dozens of campaign signs from local yards.

McAleer said she “didn’t think it was the best thing to keep them up between the two election processes.”

The signs were posted prior to the primary, in which she easily bested her two competitors, incumbent Paul McHugh and newcomer Del DelaBarre. Her signs, she said, “are something I think should only be up during the relevant period.”

DelaBarre, who faces McAleer in the runoff, said he hasn’t taken down his signs. In fact, he said, “I’m trying to find one of them.”

DelaBarre said a 4-foot by 8-foot sign that was formerly posted on Fifth Avenue in Sequim has gone missing. He said he had earlier heard complaints from business owners in the adjacent office park and as a result had moved the sign.

“Shortly after that it disappeared. It’s kind of disheartening to have that happen,” he said.

He added that he has no intention of taking down more signs and is in fact seeking new locations. “I definitely feel they’re necessary for me ’cause I got the hell beat out of me in the primary,” he said. “I’m old, but I don’t give up easily.”
