Sound sponsors first Sunshine Fest

Sound Community Bank is the first sponsor for the inaugural Sequim Sunshine Festival. Funds support the Saturday Beach Party at Carrie Blake Community Park with the festival set for Friday-Saturday, March 6-7, 2020. It features a series of events to celebrate Sequim sunshine, the end of winter, and a look forward to the upcoming spring and summer seasons.

“Stay tuned for all kinds of exciting details regarding this event, slated for the first weekend in March, where we celebrate Sequim’s best-known asset – sunshine!” said Shelli Robb-Kahler, vice-president and hub branch manager for the Sequim and Port Ludlowbranches of Sound Community Bank.

EWU dean’s list

Eastern Washington University released its dean’s list for spring 2019. More than 3,200 students made the list. Sequim students are Andrea Albaugh, Aaron Hope, Jacob Hudson, Hailey Lester, Kaila Sundquist, Allison Taiji, and Sven Wiker.

An undergraduate student who earns 12 quality hours and receives a GPA of 3.5 or better is on the dean’s list.

Couple supports Cancer Center

Sequim’s Sue and C.V. Tondreaus were honored recently by Olympic Medical Center staff and Hospital Commissioners on July 17 after the couple donated $50,000 toward the OMC Cancer Center.

Skinner said so far the cancer center has received $1.25 million in support, and foundation members look to raise another $20,000 to finance equipment needed for the building’s expansion. For more information on OMC Foundation’s efforts, visit www.omhf.org/.

Sequim grad earns geology scholarship

Western Washington University student Alexis Paige Cromer, daughter of Jim and Gail Cromer, received the $1,000 David A. Rahm Memorial Endowment Scholarship for the 2019-20 academic year.

This scholarship, named after former Western Professor David A. Rahm, supports students majoring in Western’s Geology program. Cromer graduated from Sequim High School in 2016 and plans to graduate from Western in spring 2020 while majoring in Geology.
