A four-hour standoff between Sequim Police and a fugitive ended peacefully Monday evening.

Kody Kautzman, wanted on two separate warrants, was arrested by officers as he left the East Cedar Street residence where he had been negotiating with police for several hours.

Kautzman was arrested by Sequim Police on April 16 and charged with failure to transfer title of a motor vehicle and possession of paraphernalia.

He was scheduled to review his sentence requirements on Sept. 26, but failed to show.

Clallam County District Court Judge Rick Porter issued the warrants and included $25,000 in bail on each.

‘Calmly, patiently’

Sequim Police Deputy Chief Sherry Crain said Kautzman was holed up at 933 E. Cedar St. in the home of his former girlfriend when police arrived on the scene at approximately 1 p.m.

They were met by other residents of the household who told police Kautzman wasn’t present in the home.

“It took us a while to find out if he was in there,” Crain said.

Eventually, she said, police were able to determine his presence.

Kautzman was agitated, Crain said. “He talked about suicide … said he had a gun.”

“He may have used drugs that day.”

Crain said detectives with the department decided to “calmly, patiently” negotiate with Kautzman.

“About 5 p.m. he came out,” she said.

The police report said Kautzman did not have a gun.
