Applications available

for Lavender street fair

Applications are now available to participate in the 2009 Sequim Lavender Festival Street Fair. The 13th annual festival brings attendees from across the country and around the world to the weekend’s events, including the juried street fair.

All participant booths must be open Friday, July 17, and Saturday, July 18, from 9 a.m.-7 p.m. and Sunday, July 19, from 9 a.m.-5 p.m.

All items presented for sale are required to be made by the artist. The application must be postmarked by Jan. 26 and include photographs of items and participant’s booth to jury.

Festival marshals named

Jeri Smith, Sequim-Dungeness Valley Chamber of Commerce administrator, was selected as grand marshal for the 2009 Sequim Irrigation Festival. The grand marshal is recognized for community and/or festival work.

Smith has worked with the festival for many years. For members of the chamber, she has been called the "rock" and recognized for her role in holding the chamber together during the past year.

Sequim Pioneer Association selects grand pioneers and honorary grand pioneers who are recognized at the festival’s Pioneer Dinner and participate in festival events.

Grand pioneers were born in and lived most of their lives in the Sequim area. Honorary grand pioneers have lived in the Sequim area for more than 40 years.

Grand pioneers for 2009 are John Jarvis and Margaret Eberle Lotzgesell and honorary grand pioneers are Cliff Vining and Mary Miller Schott.

The 2009 royalty will be selected at the royalty pageant on Feb. 21, which will be the first opportunity to meet all the dignitaries for the 114th festival.

Land trust organization meets

Nicole Hill of Cascade Land Conservancy will be the guest speaker at North Olympic Land Trust’s annual meeting from 3-5 p.m. Jan. 31 in the PUB at Peninsula College, 1502 E. Lauridsen Blvd., Port Angeles.

The trust begins a strategic conservation planning process in 2009.

Alums plan 30th reunion

A meeting to plan the Sequim High School class of 1979 reunion meeting will start at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 26, at Las Palomas Restaurant. Anyone interested in helping plan is welcome.
