The Olympic Peninsula Audubon Society will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 19, at the Dungeness River Audubon Center at Railroad Bridge Park, 2151 W. Hendrickson Road in Sequim.

Mandy Holmgren, staff biologist, The Institute for Bird Populations, will present “Birds of the Olympic Backcountry.” Since 2006, Holmgren has been leading research teams that track nesting birds in Olympic, Mount Rainier and North Cascades national parks.

Every spring and summer, her crews conduct point counts along a transect line in the national park backcountry, trying to document annual changes in bird populations.

Much of Holmgren’s work is in areas where few will ever get, so come learn about her intriguing work and about the birds that nest in the backcountry of Olympic National Park.

The program is free and open to the public.
