Local students are turning their life experience into credits that help them achieve a high school diploma.
Peninsula College’s HS21+ program offers adult learners the opportunity to earn their high school diploma in as little as 10 weeks.
To receive credit for prior learning, students work one-on-one with an instructor to develop an essay in which they document the skills and knowledge they have gained through work and life experience. Credit(s) are awarded upon completion and instructor review of the essay.
Created with working adults and parents in mind, the program offers a number of classes online, allowing students to complete work according to their own schedule at home. For those who learn better in a classroom, the program also allows students a face-to-face instruction option.
Online courses include U.S. History, Fine Art, Washington State History, Science, Contemporary World Problems, English, Prior Learning and a variety of electives.
Students can receive in-person instruction at Peninsula College locations in Port Angeles, Sequim, Forks, Port Hadlock and Neah Bay.
Students must be 21 to receive their diploma, but may begin working toward their diploma before turning 21.
The program is $25 per quarter and financial aid is available.
