Plow day for the Pumpkin Patch SLIDESHOW

Sequim’s Old Iron fans revved up their tractors and readied their horses to help stir up some dirt at the Pumpkin Patch on April 11 for the ninth annual Plow Day.

Participants tilled about 12 acres for Theresa Lassila, who runs the farm, while spectators watched, heard engines zoom, went on hay rides and bought lunch from the Sequim FFA.

Dana Davis, who brought three tractors of his own to run and display, said about 10 drivers helped plow all for free for the second year at the farm.

“We’d like to keep doing it,” he said. “We want to preserve this nice open space.”

Tractors and plows ranged in type and age. Jim Bekkevar brought out his recently refurbished 1961 McCormick International, which had a new, shiny red coat of paint.

“It’s fun to come out and see all the people,” he said.

After the drivers’ efforts, the farm will sell pumpkins from the field but a design for the Pumpkin Patch’s maze has not been determined yet, farmers said.
