School milestone: SHS takes the Elkie

Sequim High School senior Aaron Witherell’s entry in the Sequim Education Foundation’s ninth-annual Student Film Festival last month, “My Backyard,” helped Sequim High take home the “Elkie,” the festival’s crowd favorite.

Sequim High School senior Aaron Witherell’s entry in the Sequim Education Foundation’s ninth-annual Student Film Festival last month, “My Backyard,” helped Sequim High take home the “Elkie,” the festival’s crowd favorite.

Greywolf Elementary fifth-grade students Kalli Wiker and Jaden Rego. “Bigfoot Investigators” film was a close second, as the competition went into overtime.

The Elkie trophy is engraved with the current winner’s name and resides in the trophy case of the winner’s school until next year. “Elkie” has taken up residence at three of Sequim’s five schools, eluding Sequim’s Greywolf and Helen Haller Elementary schools. The 10th film festival is set for April 17, 2015.

The Sequim Education Foundation has given more than 83 scholarships awards and $48,000 in scholarship money over the past nine years.
