Sequim City Band’s expansion gets firm footing

Crews with Neeley Construction were busy last week continuing construction of the expanded rehearsal space at the James Center for the Performing Arts.

The Sequim City Band is constructing an addition to the south side of the main stage. The expanded facility, band representatives note, will provide rehearsal and performance space for various community musical groups, including space for youth music education.

Next steps in construction are framing of walls, placing the trusses and capping the building with a roof.

The band continues to raise funds to meet the overall goal of $1.4 million; to date, the band has raised about $1.1 million, largely from grants and private donations from band members. Other significant donors include other community musical groups and audience members.

All donations, large or small, will be documented on the band’s website and in a display within the hall, representatives said, while major donors ($10,000 or more) will have their names posted on a permanent exterior plaque.

To donate to the Sequim City Band, a 501(c)3 nonprofit, or for more information, visit sequimcityband.org or facebook.com/Sequim.City.Band. Or, leave a message at 360-207-4722.

“The band is eager to speak to any potential donors, be they an individual or representing an organization, to discuss the project or provide a presentation,” band representatives said in a press release.

The Sequim City Band performs next at the Home Town Holidays, starting at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 26, at Centennial Place (northeast corner of Washington Street and Sequim Avenue).

The next in the band’s 2022-23 Indoor Concert Series is 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 18, at the Sequim High School auditorium. Concerts are free, and donations are accepted.
