Sequim expands utilities for future city shop expansion

Through the end of May, the City of Sequim will expand utilities for its City Shop at 169 W. Hemlock St.

Work will take place from 7 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday-Friday at the City Shop on West Hemlock Street between Sequim Avenue and Second Avenue; South Second Avenue between Hammond Street and Hemlock Street; and South Third Avenue between Pine Street and Hammond Street.

Pacific Civil and Infrastructure will install water and sewer lines and power lines, restore roads, and more.

Nick Dostie, Sequim’s city engineer/deputy director of Public Works, said the project’s budget is estimated at $1.1 million and funded by American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding, Real Estate Excise Tax and General Facility Charges.

Its purpose is “intended to support future expansion of the City Shop complex including but not limited to a fuel station, covered storage for materials, equipment and vehicles, and new structures,” he said.

The project is part of the city’s Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) for 2022-27, which the city is rescoping and rebudgeting for the updated CIP, Dostie said.

Residents can expect delays, localized closures, and detours during construction.

Local access will be provided to nearby residents, but they are encouraged to heed flaggers, cones and construction signage, and to be cognizant of large construction equipment and trucks and their backup alarms.

Residents are asked to adhere to road closure signs and use the glass recycling facility at Evergreen Collision, 703 E. Washington St., during construction.
