A Sequim man is charged with the alleged rape and molestation of a child family member.
George Henry Remillard, 65, heard charges against him on Aug. 26 in Clallam County Superior Court including two charges of rape of a child in the first degree and child molestation in the first degree.
If convicted, the felonies could lead to a sentence of life in prison.
At a preliminary appearance on Aug. 24, judge Simon Barnhart set Remillard’s bail at $25,000 and a no contact order with minors under 16, and the family member, now 10 years old.
His arraignment is set for 1:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 2.
According to the Probable Cause statement from Sequim Police Department, officer Kyle Resser was told by Port Angeles’ Child Protective Services (CPS) via Idaho’s offices that Remillard’s family member told a therapist Remillard sexually abused her when she was 4 or 5 at his downtown Sequim home.
Resser contacted the victim’s mother via phone, as the family now lives in Idaho.
The mother said her older sons stated Remillard had done something to them, but didn’t elaborate, court documents state. She confronted Remillard over the phone, and she told police he acted like a victim and he said he was a “f——— up person,” Resser reported.
On Aug. 3, Nampa Police Department (Idaho) did a forensic interview with the 10-year-old, court documents state, and she told investigators that Remillard told her to “touch his privates,” she felt “uncomfortable,” and he acted out sexually with her.
She told investigators the most recent incident was on July 4, 2019, and that he also allegedly touched or attempted to touch her cousin as well, court documents state.
In another phone call with the girl’s mother on Aug. 10, Resser reports she described him as “being very involved with her family and consistently helped pick up kids and watch them.”
She told Resser her daughter would spend the night at Remillard’s home about once a week and several times a month.
The family moved to Idaho in June 2018 from Sequim, she said, and her daughter stayed in Sequim for about four weeks the summer of 2019, with one of those weeks with Remillard.
Resser reports that the mother was considering sending her daughter again in the summer of 2020 until one of her sons said, “Don’t let her go.”
“(The son) would not provide her with any details other than, ‘(Remillard) had touched him,” Resser reported.
In another phone interview, Det. Sgt. Darrell Nelson reports that the girl’s mother said three of her sons said Remillard did similar things to them as their sister but were not open to provide further details.
The mother told Nelson she didn’t notice a change in behavior in her daughter after she saw Remillard, and recalls her using the phone to call and ask him to come over when they lived in Sequim, court documents state.
According to Nelson’s report, the mother said some of her children are considering speaking about incidents with Remillard, and Nelson requested Nampa Police interview two more of the children with a victim witness coordinator.
On Aug. 23, Remillard was arrested, and he told police, “I never raped her, oh Jesus Christ, take whatever you need,” court documents state.
Sequim Police report they continue to investigate and there are more possible charges.
